1.Cenote- Yucatan

One of the most popular snorkelling and diving destinations in the world, the Cenote's are a must for any traveller. This unbelievable system of flooded freshwater caves was named after the Mayan word for well. The top spot being the Cenote Dos Ojos, also known as 'Cenote Two Eyes,' due to its two sinkholes which reach more than 50 miles with several passages. Investigate the beautiful underwater landscapes in the pristine freshwater either underwater with your PADI license or hovering above with your snorkel and fins.

2. Mesoamerican Reef- Cozumel Island

Based just off Riviera Maya, Mesoamerican Reef contains the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, stretching nearly 700 miles from the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula down through the Honduran Bay Islands. Spectacular arrays of various types of coral provide safety for hundreds of fish species, marine turtles, and sharks. This scenic beauty of the region’s coastal areas makes it a prime tourist destination, so is not to be missed. There are many dive shops all over the island where you can either hire equipment and discover on your own or hire a guide to show you the best spots to see the amazing marine life off the shore.

3. Akumal Bay- Riviera Maya

In the haze of green and blue water, you will be amazed as the silhouette of the endangered green sea turtle swims towards you on the reef of Akumal Bay. The presence of the green sea turtle is not uncommon in this area and the creatures are highly used to a tourist being around them, making it the perfect opportunity to take some marine life photography. In addition, as the bay is protected by the reef there are minimal big waves, making Akumal Bay the perfect destination for snorkelling.  A tip for getting the best visibility is arriving no later than 9:30 am to avoid th e tourist groups. 

4. Museo Subacuatico de Arte

Most commonly know as Cancun's underwater museum, this is a world-renowned underwater oddity. Opened in 2010, the museum has over 500 sculptures mostly by the British sculptor Jason Caire's Taylor and five Mexican sculptors. The museum was thought up by Marine Park Director Jaime Gonzalez Canto, with Taylor's assistance, with the objective of saving the nearby coral reefs by providing an alternative destination for divers and to promote the formation of an artificial reef. The obscure three galleries are based between three and five meters deep, so can be viewed above or down below.

 5. Playa Las Fatas- Guerrero

Explore the calm, shallow, but exotic waters on the isolated 'Cat Beach.' It has been said that this marine filled wilderness was named after the whiskered nurse shark that can be seen gracing the blue from time to time.  After a 10 minute public ferry from the city's dock snorkelers can scope out the rocky coves either on guided tours or on their own.
