THE BEST HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS FOR 2020

Another year has swept by with many of us reminiscing on our travels throughout 2019. As we look forward into the new year ahead, there are many major events and trends to be excited for. Our travel experts have come together to display the top destinations we are excited for in not just the next few months, but as we march into a new decade.

1. Kyoto, Japan

‘The Land of the Rising Sun’, Japan is a destination that captivates all who enter and offers experiences quite unlike any other. Its culture is entirely unique, contrasting ancient traditions with a modern love of technology and pop culture to create something distinctly its own; there is a real sense of the merging of old and new. Of course, Japan is going to be a highly popular destination because of the upcoming Olympic Games in 2020. However, Kyoto offers so many more reasons to visit, from it's historic temples and colourful shrines to the mysterious culture of maiko and geisha and truly amazing cuisine.

2. Kathmandu, Nepal

It is of no surprise that Nepal is often considered one of the best places for travel.   Gateway to the Himalayas and the highest point on earth. Snow-capped mountains and sparkling streams, villages that haven’t changed for centuries, forests of rhododendrons, tranquil lakes, ancient monasteries, Bengal tigers, leopards, bears, smiling monks, and of course the highest mountain on earth. For those wanting to explore this enchanting destination, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has announced ‘Visit Nepal Year’ in 2020 to attract more tourists to the country.

3. Qingdao, China

A place of superlatives – one of the largest countries in the world, the most populous, one of the most powerful, one of the most beautiful, yet one of the most unknown. A place of huge deserts, vast plains, magical forests and some of the highest mountains and the longest rivers. However, Qingdao (on China’s Yellow Sea coast) is a place of exhilarating contrast, where historic German buildings sit between dazzlingly modern sculptural art. This intriguing mixture of architecture is also complemented with the new China Eden in 2020, the first Eden project outside of the UK. Maki8ng a destination which cannot be missed in 2020.

4. Siargao, Philippines

This teardrop-shaped tropical island is often missed off many travellers bucket lists. Siargao is fringed with pristine beaches, an abundance of wildlife and lush mangrove forests, so it would not surprise us if tourism here begins to gather pace. Being less than a tenth of the size of Bali, the island has not been overcome by tourism as of yet, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy its natural beauty.

5. Iguazú, Argentina

Ask ten people what comes to mind when they think of Argentina, and you’ll most likely get ten different answers. For some, it’s a country of fine wine and great steak; for others, its a wonderland of spectacular scenery and incredible flora and fauna. It is the birthplace of tango and polo, and home to one of the world’s greatest football teams. But for those wanting to see of the worlds most awe-inspiring sights, the Iguazú Falls are simply astounding. A visit is a jaw-dropping, magical experience, and the power and noise of the cascades – a chain of hundreds of waterfalls nearly 3km in extension – live forever in your memory as a once in a lifetime experience.
