Maalifushi by COMO

Summary

Once a favourite destination for spice traders and sailors, the islands and atolls of the Maldives are now famous as one of the most iconically romantic places on Earth. There are few countries that so perfectly define the term ‘tropical paradise’, and as such, the archipelago is home to a bevy of five-star resorts. Maalifushi by COMO stands out from the crowd, however, for its unique status as the only luxury resort on the pristine, undeveloped string of islands known as Thaa Atoll. As such, Maalifushi by COMO offers all the seclusion and exclusivity expected from a remote destination, whilst simultaneously providing the last word in luxury service and amenities. The possibilities for experiencing the extraordinary at Maalifushi are endless, thanks to the wide range of activities offered by the resort, and the natural splendour of the atoll itself.

Highlights

  • Indulge in a spa treatment or a sunrise yoga session at the overwater COMO Shambhala Retreat
  • Picnic on a deserted island whilst enjoying one of the resort’s sightseeing cruises
  • Go diving, snorkelling, or swimming with dolphins to experience the Maldives’ underwater beauty
  • Sample sumptuous Maldivian cuisine at Maalifushi’s exceptional Madi restaurant

Location

Thaa Atoll, Maldives

How to get there

Fly into Malé International Airport with either Emirates, Etihad, Singapore and Virgin Australia. You can also fly into Thimarafushi airport and come by boat to the resort.

Best time to go

The Maldives is undoubtedly a year-round destination, with temperatures both on land and underwater remaining relatively constant at all times. However, May to November can be wet due to the monsoon, and is therefore considered low season. December to April is reliably hot and dry, and generally offers the best underwater visibility for snorkelling and diving.

Our thoughts

Maalifushi by COMO emphasises the splendour of its incredible setting with elegant interiors, mouth-watering cuisine, and a staff that consistently goes above and beyond in the name of customer service. This is a resort that ably caters to all visitors to the Maldives- from scuba divers and surfer to honeymooning couples, to families with young children.

  Dining

Madi:

Taking its inspiration from the Maldives’ fresh, tropical produce and abundant seafood, Madi serves Maldivian and Mediterranean classics throughout the day. Named after the Dhivehi word for manta ray, Madi also hosts themed evenings every week, ranging from a traditional Maldivian Boddu Berru night, to a Thali Evening that focuses on south Indian specialities.

Thila:

Named after the famous pinnacle dive sites of the Maldives, Thila is a relaxed poolside restaurant and bar where guests can come to sample delicious cuisine, or simply to chill out. The menu at Thila is informal and family-friendly, featuring salads, fresh seafood and inventive pizzas. Thila is the heart of island life on Maalifushi, offering spectacular views of the pool and the ocean beyond.

Tai:

As one of the finest Japanese restaurants in the Maldives, Tai is appropriately named after the red snapper - a celebratory fish in traditional Japanese culture. Featuring dedicated sushi and cocktail bars, Tai offers mouth-watering cuisine that focuses on sustainably caught seafood fresh from the Indian Ocean.

Maalifushi by COMO offers its guests a choice between 33 overwater villas, and 32 island suites.
