Jakar Village Lodge

Summary

Your visit to the historic Bumthang region would no doubt be motivated by a visit to the great Jakar Dzong or “Castle of the White Bird” that overlooks the Chamkhar Valley and the town of Chamkhar. Built in 1549 the Dzong’s main role was as a fortress to protect the east before becoming the seat of the first king of Bhutan. The Jakar Village Lodge makes an ideal base just five minutes walk from the Dzong with spectacular views over the valley below. Sit back on your terrace and enjoy the views or head out to explore Bhutan’s oldest and most venerated temples in the picturesque surrounding districts

Our thoughts

The traditional lodge gives a great insight into the culture of Bhutan and is a real delight. We liked that the owner takes the time to chat to guests and enjoys taking about the history and legends of the surrounding countryside which gives this lodge a genuinely authentic feel.
