New Year's Eve Around the World

Many of us will likely have our New Year’s Eve plans sorted by now, or at least have a vague idea of what we would like to do and who we would like to spend it with. But for those unsure what to do, or simply curious about what else is going on, we’ve taken a look at the top New Year’s Eve celebrations around the world – after all it's never too late to book a very last minute getaway, or too early to start planning for next year!

Dubai, UAE

Fireworks are a big hit worldwide, so if you fancy swapping the central London display for something slightly further afield, there are several options for you to choose from. Dubai’s stunning coastline and landmarks make a glamorous alternative to the Thames, where fountain displays and fireworks combine to make a fantastic visual spectacle for onlookers, and what’s more the temperatures stay high so there’s no need to bundle up to stay warm. Dubai is also home to some amazing nightlife, so for those seeking more of a party you are sure to find plenty of opportunities that will guarantee your New Year’s Eve is a night to remember (or not, depending how much you have to drink…).

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is another destination that always guarantees a memorable New Year. Again, beautiful firework displays are let off that can be seen across the city, although the best place to view them and enjoy the atmosphere is CentralWorld square and along the river where you can also enjoy light shows and a live concert. If you want to escape the crowds, a great way to view the display is while enjoying a meal or a few drinks either on a cruise along the Chao Phraya River where you can watch the reflections of the fireworks dance in the waters, or alternatively at the 63 stories high Sirocco restaurant, although you’ll be hard pressed to get a reservation at this short notice, it’s one to bear in mind for next year.

Hong Kong, China

It’s hardly surprising that the vibrant Hong Kong makes the list of our top New Year’s party destinations, with its Symphony of Lights Show that takes place along the harbour being an attraction every day of the year, not just December 31st. However, New Year’s Eve sees the city put on its most dazzling display of the calendar. While events kick off in the Time’s Square shopping mall, the best place to head to enjoy the main show is Victoria Harbour, or better yet organise a boat or roof terrace party where the views will be unparalleled.
