This 15 day itinerary has been designed with the adventure-loving family in mind, offering ample opportunity to explore Sri Lanka and experience its rich culture, beauty, and wildlife. Sri Lanka’s abundance of exotic creatures is one of the main focal points of this holiday, with the game drives round its various National Parks sure to be highlights of your trip. You will also have the chance to get to know all about the island’s history and culture with visits to some of the nation's many heritage sites, great for educating children as well as being a fun day out. We have of course factored in some time for relaxing and enjoying some quality family time with a few days and afternoon left free for you to decide what to do - perhaps visit one of the beautiful palm-fringed beaches or go for a walk and take in Sri Lanka's natural beauty. This varied tour is sure to please even the fussiest family member and provide you with memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Best time to go

Sri Lanka is a year round destination depending on which side of the island you choose.  The South West and North East have different weather patterns, but the peak time for the best weather is December to mid-April. Travelling in the shoulder seasons, particularly July to August has many advantages.


Day 1: UK Departure
Overnight flight from London Heathrow to Colombo.

Day 2: Uga Residence (BB)
Once you arrive at Colombo Airport you will be transferred by private vehicle to the Uga Residence where you will stay overnight. Your afternoon is to be spent at leisure, so perhaps relax in the hotel and recover from the flight or go and explore Sri Lanka’s capital city.

Day 3: Jetwing Vil Uyana (BB)
This morning you will drive four and a half hours to Sigiriya, where upon arrival you will check into the Jetwing Vil Uyana hotel for a 3 night stay. This eco hotel is a haven for nature lovers and enjoys views of Sigiriya Rock and features individual villas dotted amongst the rice paddies.  Your afternoon is again one at leisure so settle into the hotel or go for a walk in the nearby walk.

Day 4: Jetwing Vil Uyana (BB)
On your fourth day you’ll get to visit one of Sri Lanka’s most famous sites Sigiriya Rock. Both adults and children are sure to have fun climbing this UNESCO World Heritage site that has also been named Lion Rock due to the enormous lion shaped gateway that is passed through during the ascent. You’ll also enjoy a visit to the Dambulla Temple Caves, built in the 1st century BC these caves are the best preserved temple cave complex in all of Sri Lanka.

Day 5: Jetwing Vil Uyana (BB)
Today will be an action-packed one, starting off with a morning visit to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, once a medieval capital of Sri Lanka dating back to the 12th century.  In the afternoon you will be taken on a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee district, as well as being home to a variety of other animals.

Day 6: Mas Villa (BB)  
This morning you will depart early to make the drive to Kotmale, making a stop en route in Kandy to visit the Temple of The Tooth, an important Buddhist religious relic. Once you arrive in Kotmale you will check into the Mas Villa for a 2 night stay. This hotel is surrounded by the stunning panoramas of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country.

Day 7: Mas Villa (BB)
Today you have the freedom to decide what you would like to do, perhaps look into some of the activities offered by the resort, such as full day excursions, a tour of a tea estate, or a scenic boat ride in the Kotmale Reservoir.   

Day 8: Master Campers Tented Camping (FB)
This morning transfer by road to Udawalawe. Upon arrival check into the Master Campers Tented Camping for a 2 night stay. Fear not if you have young children as the facilities include hot water showers, alfresco dining, phone charging, en-suite bathrooms with running water, and all food and drinks including five course dinners. In the afternoon you’ll enjoy a game drive in Udawalawe National park, an important habitat for water birds and Sri Lankan elephants.

Day 9: Master Campers Tented Camping (FB)
Today you’ll get to enjoy another two game drives in Udawalawe National park, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. A wide range of creatures can be found at this national park, you could be in with the chance of seeing elephant, sloth bear, water buffalo, toque macaque, otter, leopard, and a variety of other reptiles, amphibians, and birds.

Day 10: Cinnamon Wild (BB)
This morning you will enjoy a final game drive around Udawalawe National park before transferring by road to Yala, a journey of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you arrive you will check into the Cinnamon Wild where you will stay for the next 2 nights. Yala National Park is the most visited park and is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds; there is outstanding bird watching year round.

Day 11: Cinnamon Wild (BB)
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Yala National Park. Again you will have the opportunity to see all different kinds of animals, including wild elephant, and wild boar in addition to a wide variety of birds.

Day 12: The Fortress Resort and Spa (BB)
Transfer by road to Koggala, a journey of 3 hours.  Upon arrival check into The Fortress Resort and Spa for a 3 night stay, the rest of the day is yours to spend however you please, although we would definitely recommend checking out one of the beautiful beaches found nearby.

Day 13: The Fortress Resort and Spa (BB)
Today get to know more about Sri Lanka’s culture and history by exploring Galle Fort and taking a Galle Fort Walk with a resident host.  Despite being over 423 years old, this historical site still retains a polished appearance and is a great architectural and archaeological site.

Day 14: The Fortress Resort and Spa (BB)
One your final full day in Sri Lanka you will get to enjoy a village experience in Galle. Highlights of today have to include a boat ride through the southern jungle, cycling through paddy fields and a cooking demonstration. You’ll be truly immersed in Sri Lankan culture.

Day 15: Departure
Transfer by road to Colombo Airport, a journey of 2 hours and 30 minutes to check in for your flight to London.
