Spend a morning with a Balinese farming community to see what most of these cheerful folk do each day. Take an easy rafting trip to discover the fantastic birdlife and animals along the Ayung River and get the whole family on 'board' with a surfing lesson at Kuta Beach. Day 1: Departure
Overnight flight to Bali.

Day 2: Bali

Arrive in the afternoon at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar and be greeted by the local guide and driver for a private transfer to Sanur. After checking into the hotel, take some time to relax and freshen up, or do a bit of exploring independently.

Day 3: Bali

After a late breakfast in the morning, be picked up by the driver and tour guide for the short transfer to the jewellery studio for a lesson in how to make traditionally-styled silver jewels. Start with a short video which shows the progress of jewellery through the ages. Then receive a briefing on health and safety practices before the actual lesson begins. Each guest will receive 5 grams of silver to create their own unique designs under the expert guidance of a professional silversmith and jewellery maker. Note: this workshop is suitable for children from 10 years up.

A simple lunch is served in the studio. Following lunch, return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Cruise to Nusa Lembongan

In the morning, be picked up from the hotel around 07:30 and transfer (join-in transfer) to Benoa Harbour. Arrive at the harbour where a motor catamaran awaits and depart for a fun day trip to the nearby islet of Nusa Lembongan (1.5h cruise per way). On the way to the island, enjoy light snacks and beverages while taking in spectacular views of the sea and surrounding island before arriving at Nusa Lembongan, an island oasis of white beaches and clear waters. The rest of the time on Nusa Lembongan is free to spend as desired. For those with a love for the sea, there are activities such as snorkelling and a glass-bottom boat riding that provide spectacular views of the area’s abundant marine life. There’s also a mangrove tour with a small boat as an option. Alternatively, visit one of the island’s village for a glimpse into the unique local lifestyles on the island and a look at an underground house (actually dug out by hand) or visit one of the island’s seaweed farms.

For those who aren’t feeling quite as ambitious, there’s also plenty of opportunities to sit around on the beach and just relax, either in the sun, in the shade or at the beach club. A barbecue buffet lunch will be served midday with a glass of wine or beer. Around 16:00, the boat will depart for the journey back to Benoa Harbour. Light snacks and drinks will be served onboard. Upon reaching the shores of Bali again, receive a transfer back to the hotel.

Day 5: Sanur - Ubud

After breakfast, check out and be picked up by the driver and tour guide for some interesting sightseeing en route to Ubud. The route to the volcanic Batur Lake and the small village of Kintamani on the rim of the caldera leads via small scenic roads offering amazing panoramas over the beautiful rice fields and landscape (around 2 hours from Sanur).

About two hours into the journey, arrive at Kintamani where the still active Mount Batur stands with breathtaking views. Adjacent to the volcano is the large crescent-shaped Batur Lake, all surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim. Stop for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant here, with all-encompassing views over Lake Batur and the jaw-dropping scenery.

Afterwards, hit the road again and stop in Tampak Siring for a visit to the unique temple of Gunung Kawi. Set amidst lush rice terraces, these 11th-century temples feature 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) carved into the cliff face. They stand at 7-metres-high and combine ancient Hindu and Buddhist temple attributes. There are numerous stairs leading down to the temple.

Note: to access the temple, about 300 stairs must be climbed. 

Before arriving in Ubud, visit the holy spring temple of Tirta Empul for a look ponds of sacred cleansing water. It is said that the former president Soekarno liked to observe the bathing people from the presidential guest house which is built just atop the valley. The Balinese visit this spring for ritual purification, which guests are encouraged to do as well!

Note: There is an opportunity to bath here. The water can be quite chilly. Changing facilities are extremely basic and offer little privacy. It is required to wear a decent dress, such as a sarong, when entering the ponds.

Day 6: Ubud

Breakfast at hotel and enjoy today at leisure with a choice of optional activities as follow:

  • Ayung River Rafting: the rafting has a rating level of 2-3, valid for kids 7 years and older. You will cover 10 km in 90 minutes, and the trip will be done in two parts, with a halfway break. You will be treated to an Indonesian buffet lunch post your adventure trip.
  • Village Cycling: A 2-hour adventure covering approximately 17 km, through untouched rice terraces and villages dotted with traditional houses and temples. Stop to meet friendly locals, take photos of scenic spots and pass through Sangeh, a monkey forest, and meet its cheeky inhabitants. Enjoy an Indonesian buffet lunch post your adventure

Overnight: Komaneka At Bisma [Breakfast]

Day 7: Ubud - Taman Sari Buwana - Munduk

This morning at 08:00, check out from the hotel and depart for today’s excursion.

Start with experiencing local Balinese life while supporting a community-based tourism project in the village of Tunjuk. Visit the village home base and learn from village elders how to make a variety of traditional Balinese temple offerings by weaving palm fronds. Take a guided walk through the compound to learn more about the sustainable set up of a Balinese community and the animals, fruits and herbs that are grown in family gardens.

Walk with local farmers to their rice fields, referred to as sawah and learn how to plant, transplant or harvest rice (depending of the season). Be prepared for farming activities by donning a farmer’s hat, covering up with mosquito repellent and picking up a local mattock (small farm tool) -all provided by the farm. It is recommended to wear flip-flops or similar shoes and to bring sunscreen as well.

After farming, take a short walk through patches of seasonal vegetables and into a small coconut plantation where one of the men from the village will demonstrate their ability to climb up trees and gather young coconuts for refreshment. Sip young coconut juice from cups sculpted from coconut shells.

Next, return to the home base and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Continue to Kayuputih Village in Munduk via Belimbing. Check in to the hotel and enjoy dinner at leisure.

Overnight: Sanak Retreat [Half Board]

Day 8: Munduk

Munduk is the ideal location for outdoor activities and this morning you’ll have the chance to explore with a light trek. Munduk is surrounded by tropical rainforest with beautiful waterfalls and because of its cool temperature (20-25°C) many fruits, vegetables and spices are grown in the area. Start from the hotel for a nice 2-hour trek in Munduk to explore areas with numerous plantations (including coffee, cloves and local spices). On the way back, stop in the village for tasting local coffee.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner tonight will be served at the hotel’s restaurant.

Day 9: Munduk - Seminyak

After breakfast at hotel, checkout and depart with the guide and driver. Proceed to Bedugul, an area of the central highlands that is famous for its stunning natural beauty and three lakes. Ascend further to the north into the hills for a visit to the famous Ulun Danu Temple. Set on an island on the peaceful waters of Lake Bratan, this temple is one of Bali’s most iconic and photogenic sites.

Visit the traditional market of Bedugul where a myriad of fruits, vegetables and orchids are for sale from the area’s gardens. There are also stalls selling exotic spices and souvenirs. Continue to Bali Treetop Adventure nearby and get ready to climb and swing. A professional guide will explain how the circuit works, how to use the equipment, and will provide all safety instructions. Go on any of the circuits of Bali Treetop Adventure Park. It is recommended to start with the lowest category, Green Discovery Circuit, before trying the higher circuits. There is a variety of activities including: high-flying swings, rope ladders, breath-taking jumps and a 160-metre long zip line (also called ‘Flying Fox’). Some ‘lower ropes’ activities also include ladders and short swings.

Participants will be attached to a life-line support throughout the entire course. Patrol guides will also stand-by along the circuit, ready to advise and assist as needed, giving support from above and below. All circuit platforms are held in place using an innovative compression system to protect trees from any damage. Protective half logs are used to prevent cables from cutting into trees and minimize tree trunk degradation. After the exhilarating activity, proceed to the hotel in South Bali stopping en route at Mengwi to visit Taman Ayun Temple.

Afterwards, transfer to the selected hotel in Seminyak.

Day 10: Family Surfing 

Be picked up from the hotel around 08:30 and transfer to Kuta Beach (join-in transfer). Be welcomed by a personal surf instructor and receive rash guards to protect against the sun while receiving a safety briefing. After this, the teacher will demonstrate and explain some techniques. The well-trained instructors show and teach the basics of surfing, how to balance, how to paddle, etc. -first in a pool and after, once the basic skills of surfing are handled, head out with the instructors to the beach and try out some of the surfing techniques in the ocean.

The entire session lasts about 2.5 hours and is fully accompanied by an instructor. There is 2 hours free time after the session to wander the Kuta area before returning to the hotel for the evening.

Day 11: Seminyak

Morning is free at leisure and, in the afternoon, depart at 16:00 to visit Uluwatu, a beautiful temple set on steep cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean with a big sacred monkey population. There, witness a traditional ‘kecak’ dance, a Balinese “fire” dance, which is certainly one of the islands most spectacular things to see. Watch the story of the Ramayana while the sun sets over the Indian Ocean below the cliffs. Following this spectacular start to the evening, head to Jimbaran and enjoy a scrumptious seafood barbecue dinner on the beach.

Return to the hotel after dinner.

Day 12: Departure
The morning is free at leisure until pick up time for a transfer to the airport for a return flight home.
