This new Six Senses hotel may have bigger sisters in the area (Soneva Fushi and Soneva Gili), but it has an edge: surfing. Everyone surfs now- it's a kind of default midlife-crisis option, like doing the Dukan. But this is one of the few places-and certainly the most nifty-offering board action in the Maldives. All is driftwood prettiness, with Slow Food restaurants, beach villas with their own tower for private sunset-gazing, and jungly sand paths leading guests (on their sit-up-and-beg bicycles) to an outdoor screening of The Notebook, lit by flaming torches. So far, so Six Senses, but you’ll not only find film producers and their beautiful girlfriends here - there are also Aussies and Brazilians heading straight for the Yin Yang wave, a brutal eight-foot right-hander that creams along the horizon. Dudes who like their thrills with a dash less danger are happy to ride the easy reef break - Steve, the resident surf hero, will even line you up and give you a push to start you off. As you wait for your tube, you might spy green turtles or a passing pod of dolphins. Come home with abs so sharp they could cut a pineapple.
