Kempinski Hotel Aqaba

The strikingly futuristic rooms with their white textiles, chrome lamps and glass bathrooms boast great views. Expect to indulge in some seriously great cuisine. The standout restaurant is Fish-In, with melt-in-the-mouth seafood, and the sunken pool bar will put you in the holiday mood. With the Red Sea on its doorstep, Aqaba is a natural playground. The hotel offers a plethora of water sports including snorkelling, diving, kayaking and sailing – and the year-round sunshine is an undisputed bonus too.

Kempinski Hotel Ishtar
Dead Sea, Jordan
Next to the world’s oldest and very first natural spa (the Dead Sea), this hotel is the epitome of calm. It helps to have one of the largest destination spas in the Middle East, the 10,000 square-metre Anantara Spa. This haven of pampering not only specialises in local treatments (salt and mud) but also deals in a staggering selection of stress-zapping Asian therapies. This is comprehensive with a capital ‘C’. There’s a Moroccan Hammam, Watsu Pool and indoor salt pools, a Tepidarium (for spa geeks) and no end of scrubs, wraps, facials and massages. The one that hurtles straight to the top of our must-do list is East & West, Anantara’s signature massage. Using a unique blend of oils and purpose-designed massage movements to stimulate blood circulation, it provides deep relaxation while simultaneously using reflexology to clear any energy blockages. The spa has also recently introduced yoga classes (group and private), run by the exceptional Kamlesh Kumar. Definitely one to watch on the international spa scene.
Book it: Cleveland Collection (020 7843 3596) offers five nights from £810 per person based on two people sharing a Superior Room with breakfast, including return flights to Amman with BMI and private airport transfers.

Evason Ma’In
Hot Springs, Ma’In Jordan
A spa that takes full advantage of the amazing desert larder at its manicured fingertips to deliver an A-list, organic glow. Better still it’s the easiest of the exotic short breaks: a five hour flight and a one hour (extremely scenic) transfer. And there you are in the care of therapist in hijabs administering yogurt and honey facials, or polishing your weary body to perfection with Dead Sea salts and mud (you can bob in the real thing, 30 minutes away) This hotel is incredibly good value, but the deal-maker is it’s spectacular setting- a 264-metre spiral down into an enticing rust-red ravine with dozens of hot-spring waterfalls. Soak in these mineral-rich waters, then chill out in the natural-sauna caves and you’ll feel transported back 2,000 years to when, as legend has it, Ma’ln was the place King Herods came to seek regal R & R.
Book it: Cleveland Collection (0207 843 3596) offers four nights from £1,075 per person, including flights, transfers, breakfast and treatments
