Travelling by air and by China’s super-efficient rail network, this superb itinerary combines the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, the history of Beijing and Xi’an and the lesser known gems of Suzhou and Hangzhou to create a wonderful tour.

Best time to go

Generally speaking, the best months to visit China are in the spring or autumn months of April, May, September and October as temperatures are warm and it is fairly dry.


Day 1: UK Departure
Overnight flight to Shanghai

Day 2: Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, Shanghai (BB)
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Pudon Shangri-La Hotel where you spend the next two nights.

Day 3: Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, Shanghai (FB)
Enjoy a full day tour to include the Yu Gardens, a walk around the Old Town and a visit to the Shanghai Museum, with its 120,000 piece collection of Chinese ancient treasures. After dinner enjoy the famous Shanghai Acrobatic Show. 

Day 4: Pan Pacific Suzhou Hotel, Suzhou (HB)
Today you travel by train to Suzhou, the Venice of the East. Explore the Master of the Nets Garden and the Humble Administrator's Garden before visiting the Grand Canal. Overnight for the next tow nights at the Pan Pacific Suzhou Hotel.

Day 5: Pan Pacific Suzhou Hotel, Suzhou (HB)
Enjoy a tour of nearby Tongli, a peaceful ancient town, famous for its architecture, hidden gardens and 49 stone bridges. (B,L)

Day 6: Hyatt Regency Hangzhou, Hangzhou (HB)
Travel by train to Hangzhou and take a cruise on the picturesque West Lake. Continue on to view the Lingyin Temple and visit the Dragon Well Tea Plantation. Stay overnight at the Hyatt Regency Hangzhou. 

Day 7: The Westin Xi'an, Xi'an (BB)
Fly to Xi’an, where you will be met and transferred to The Westin Xi'an. Partake in a tour which includes a visit to the Ancient City Walls and the Great Mosque. 

Day 8: The Westin Xi'an, Xi'an (FB)
A full day excursion to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world - the Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses, followed by a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda. Enjoy a dumpling feast followed by a wonderful traditional Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 9: Grand Hyatt Beijing, Beijing (HB)
Fly to Beijing to stay for three nights at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. Visit the Temple of Heaven, and tour by old–fashioned pedicab through the Hutongs, exploring the oldest part of the city for a real insight into traditional Chinese lifestyle.

Day 10: Grand Hyatt Beijing, Beijing (HB)
A full day of sightseeing includes the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace & Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.

Day 11: Grand Hyatt Beijing, Beijing (FB)
In the morning visit China's most renowned monument - The Great Wall, and after lunch visit the Ming Tomb, an ancient burial ground of the Chinese emperors. Dinner is a traditional Beijing Duck Dinner – a Chinese delicacy.

Day 12: Departure
Depart on a daytime flight to the UK.
