Seasons

Spain’s climate is diverse owing to its varying terrain, altitude, influences of the Mediterranean Sea in the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the north-west. The north is generally more temperate and the south hotter, however winter sees heavy snow across the higher lying land and mountains.

Winter: December to February are the coldest months with snowfall on the mountains. 

Spring: March to May brings warmer weather and the southern coast becomes more popular as a beach destination in May leading up to Summer

Summer: June to August are the hottest months throughout the country

Autumn: September to November brings cooler temperatures however the southern coast remains a popular beach destination

Best time to go

June to August see the hottest months along the south and east coast and is best for travel to the beach making this the peak travel season. The shoulder season in late spring (April and May) and autumn (October and November) is less crowded and still offers pleasant weather.

Best time for skiing is in January and February when there is ample snow.
